Einige seiner wichtigsten Bücher sind die Dissertation ''Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft Chinas'' (1931) und die mit Feng Chia-Sheng verfasste ''History of Chinese Society, Liao'' (1947), das Ergebnis des ''Chinese History Project''. Sein Hauptwerk ist ''Oriental Despotism'' (1957), übersetzt ''Die orientalische Despotie''. Wittfogels Arbeiten über China beruhen auf Max Weber und Karl Marx. Veröffentlicht in Wikipedia
